This Sunday, October 26th, 2008, we have a special event involving everyone at our church, including the Children's ministry, Youth group, Korean ministry and RBC - EM, our One Community Church congregation.

Come and support the Charity concert for the North Korea mission at 12:30 PM in the Main Santuary.

Sunday service for One Community Church (RBC - EM) will be held later at 2 PM in the Youth building behind the house where we meet weekly for Wednesday Night Bible Study.

The CM teachers, including a few of the EM members had planned a BBQ party for a very special member. For the EM congregation, it was a BBQ invitation, which turned out to be a good luck/ good-bye party for Pattie, an EM member who is also a CM teacher.

So most of us from the congregation and Pastor Jun and 2 youth guys (Tom and Jay)were along us to celebrate someone very special night it was to be an "Surprise".

May 19th.

This surprise was all planned by D. Koo- I also ran into him and Michelle just few moments after the run-in with Jonathan also at B&N.

The time for the surprise was 7pm Bay Street's Elephant Bar

Meet up with the whole gang at Elephant Bar while we wait for Tom and Jonathan to walk-in.

While seating down- P. DeWayne, Jay and P. Jun was coming in with 2 birthday cakes.
Yes, I said 2 birthday cakes. One was SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star with #25 candles while the other one was an white cake with frosting and "Happy Birthday' candles.

After the meal- Of course we all dig into the white cake and took pictures. P. Jun got Jonathan twice with all the cake smearing on the face in the same area.

So this weekend is packed!

First off, tonight there are 2 events

the Youth Group's Praise Night (Grace Night)held at the Hayward Church also our EM congregation has also an Praise Night held tonight at church.

Most of the KM and the Paul Group are planning to join the event.

Second-Tomorrow events

Our church is celebration the 29th Anniversary-plus the upcoming new KM pastor and the meeting of our EM Pastor. The service is planned out from each dept in our church congregation. The CM (the kids) will sing, orchestra, Youth and the KM special program, etc. So the EM service will be held later than schedule.

Richmond Baptist Church (Korean Ministry) started in 1979. Pastor Hoon Bae has been serving as the Senior Pastor of RBC since 1982. The English Ministry of RBC started in June 2001 with Pastor Sam Shin and a group of about ten young people. In October of 2003, Sam Shin moved on to pursue his calling as a Youth Pastor at San Jose FKBC. Erin Bishop served as an associate pastor from August 2003 until September of 2004. In March 2004, Joseph Chu began to serve as the lead pastor for the English Ministry.

In 2005 the English Ministry became financially independent from the Korean Ministry.

End of Sept. 2007 Pastor Joseph Chu and family moved back to the East Coast.

This spring of 2008- We are glad that Dewayne Strange is now fully our main pastor. Who has been one of guest speakers before Pastor Joseph Chu moved.

This coming Saturday, April 26th is our EM "Praise Night"

Sunday, April 27th, 2008 will be our church 29th anniversary. Which KM, EM, CM, RY and the Paul group (the whole church congregation) will be meeting the new KM pastor and the EM pastor.

But tomorrow, the youth group and our pastor will be joining the KM service as well with next week service. Keep them in your prayers.

Some EM guys (youth teachers and myself) were helping out the Youth Dept. Probably just arrived home within this hour or a bit later. Few churches in the Bay Area and the East Bay had an "the Doorway 2" gathering at our church from 7pm to 11pm. Our KM and Youth moms (Richmond Youth) made amazing feast for all the kids, teachers and Pastors. The gathering was awesome and spiritual learning.

Tomorrow service, or should I say in 13 hours. Please come and join us for amazing refreshments and nourishment in the WORD and fellowship with others. EM service from 1pm-2:15pm with the following "refreshments" or come earlier and watch the Praise team 2nd rehearsal before service. 12:15pm.

Yesterday, was the last Sunday get together. For friends and family that we most loved and cherished. Daniel Chang leaving to Irvine. While Pastor Joe and family (Suhee SMN and Gideon) are moving to New Jersey. To be closer to their families and friends. So we had a housewarming and a farewell party at the same time at one of our members. We will post up a group photo pretty soon.

2 great things happened yesterday, that we are proud to say!

1. the Bay Bridge was opened early. Thank You, Caltran... and not Jonathan since he didn't work over the weekend... but thanks for telling some of us the 'secret' plan...

2. Daniel Koo and Michelle Chang's WEDDING it was amazing... the wedding starts at 5pm and ends at 5:30pm... The guest went to the hall while the Groom and the Bride party took photos... the party soon followed...The EM and the youth group left early due to work or school reasons....

When I was in college this passage inspired me to leave the church that I was serving at to serve at this smaller church that asked me to come and help them. I'll save my story for another time. But I am reminded of how sovereign God is. He wants the best for our lives.

That's why we must pray as a church during these next few months as we search for our new Pastor. Pray for God's lead during this whole process. As he prepared Abram to go to a foreign place and become the father of a great nation, He is preparing someone right now to come to our church and lead us. Let's ask God to bring us someone excellent because He will.

the crash in Brazil- from one of our EM members...

The plane that was recently crash in Brazil was my parents' flight. Dear God. I didn't even know about that until Roomie told me about the crash. When he got home it was around 7:10pm ish. He was wondering and asking me questions- if that was the flight that my folks were on, etc. So I read all my precious e-mail just to double check. Nothing. Dear God, I pray that they are ok and weren't on that flight (as I thought to myself). So I told Roomie that they are in the Amazon Jungle like the e-mail said... but I was worried... so I send an e-mail to my folks just in case... as I pray silently and watch a Disney channel show on my computer... I prayed that my folks are doing a okay...RING... 7:37pm... Out of area... I wonder is this Brazil... GOOD NEWS or is it Bad News... Oh God... As I wonder "now"... Wait!!! people in Brazil doesn't know my number only my folks... can it be... Yes, its a female voice... but no it doesn't sound like mom...Hello... as I reply back... Did you heard about the flight in Brazil, Andrew... It's me... Mom... and Dad is here somewhere in the airport... and yes, that was our flight that recently crash... and no, we weren't onboard... the flight was delay from the other airport... at least for 5 hrs... so we are doing 'OK' for now... Thank God... the flight was delayed... Gotta go and find your Dad... Hopefully, you, Hannah, Jonathan and Michelle are doing fine... Call you back hopefully soon... Pray for us... So it was Mom and the flight that crash was their flight... Dear God, Thank You for the delay and for their safety. You do always watch over us no matter what. Thank You... People on Vacation

Please pray for your friends and fellow EM members that you now. That are traveling or out of country. People going to LA, Korea, or even a drive to Canada. They will be gone for the Independence weekend or even for the whole summer. Some are even going a cruise this month or next month or even camping.

Also pray for South Lake Tahoe fire. Since in end of August, there will be a summer retreat. Pray that everything is a okay...

This Saturday, there a homewarming and a birthday celebration.

We all know that Patty and Erin are gone for the summer. So please pray for them.
Jonathan and his folks will be driving to Canada, tomorrow and will be back like in two weeks.
So he will be missing 2 Sundays.
Joanne and her family will be in LA next week so pray for them as well.
Jun JDSN is in North Lake Tahoe with his family and they won't be back til this Friday. Pray for them. (also their ordinary plan was S. Lake Tahoe but at least that work out)
Also please pray for his father since he will be the guest speaker for the KM service this Sunday and for the Kosta event that follows the next day.

this week Suhee SMN has given birth to their first newborn son,
Gideon Wisdom YoungJin Chu.

also this Saturday morning at 7:30am the Richmond Youth with the
church from S.F First Baptist Korean Church plus 4 of our EM members :
(Hannah Chung, Joanne Kim, Daniel Koo and Jonathan Yeo)
will be going to Montana. Please pray for their safe trip and back
on Sunday, June 24th around 9pm.

The drivers for our church members are the following:
Jun Eun Lee JDSN, Jonathan Yeo, Joanne Kim, and Daniel Koo.

Please also pray for them (the drivers)forthis Saturday and that
the drive is safe and comfortable.

Pray that the mission trip is exciting and they return home and so that they can

So some of us from EM went to Mount devil.. uh, Diablo, for some hiking. We parked at the summit and took the trails that took us around the area.

Weather was kind of hot, but John didn't bring shorts:

Anyways, we wanted to go to this rock:

So we set off, but the trail maps confused us. So we're having a group meeting after getting lost:

Everyone's still getting ready for the group photo. Jenny wanted the picture taken fast, and she was glad not to have photographer paid by the hour (he was kinda slow yesterday. No wonder Richmond EM managed to hire him for free.)

Everyone's just chilling as the sophisticated photo equipment is being set up for our group shot.

After a while, people who still wanted to go check out that rock split off from the rest of the group and set off on their own.

Notes about Virgina Tech Shooting

so this is not my own writing, but my good friend did such a good job, I'm going to quote her and just paste it here because this is exactly what I'm thinking about the whole event. So here it goes:

"The Virginia Tech shootings is a tragedy in our American history.

No question about it, the murderer was mentally ill, very disturbed and a violent person.

But one thing that frustrates me is that the American media is at a risk of politicizing the crime by overemphasizing the fact that the murderer was a "South Korean immigrant." This has a divisive effect on society- drawing a line between "them" and "us." In a time and place where we are suppose to be looking at each other for help and support, we are drawing lines and shifting blame. In this case, the ethnicity and nationality of the person should not be the focus of the discussion; rather we should try to look into deeper root causes.

So all this talk that the murderer is "South Korean…" First of all, he's technically a "1.5 generation Korean-American." He's not some new immigrant from South Korea. He was in the States since age 8 and he was 23 when he committed the crime. He's lived in the States for 15 years(He's lived in the States longer than he's lived in Korea!) So his personality/tendencies/attitude reflects more of American society than Korean. He grew up in the States; he's more American than Korean if you ask me. He went through the American education system like the rest of us, he was a student at Virginia Tech, he was majoring in English, and he spoke perfect English as demonstrated in his self-taped NBC videos.

I read on xangas that a lot of Korean-Americans and Koreans are feeling ashamed or apologetic- but again his Korean-American-ness had nothing to do with the crimes that he's committed. There's nothing in our Korean culture that is to blame.

The issue is not that he's Korean or Korean American…fact is, he was (1)mentally ill, (2)no one picked up on the warning signs, (3)the US has loose gun control laws, (4)the school did not alert the students in an appropriate manner…and the list goes on and on.

When Colombine happened, did the media zero in on the fact that they were White Americans? There was no hype of their ethnicity whatsoever.
